The instructors at the **learningpix**.com website have produced a number of tutorials dedicated to Photoshop. By paying an annual fee of $25, you can enjoy some of the best digital art tutorials available to the public. The tutorials are divided by title, and it’s easy to navigate through each set of tutorials. Additional tutorials can be purchased for $10 each (see Figure 4-16).

## **Create a Design in Photoshop**

Some designers learn to draw before transitioning to Photoshop, in the belief that a pencil and paper have more learning benefits. Other designers begin with Photoshop and transition to digital art later. Be sure you have a portfolio of work from both pencil and digital art prior to applying to graduate school.

Photoshop can be used to simplify design and create designs from scratch, as you will see here. You will create a postage stamp-size logo, then turn it into an **icon** that you can drop into an email signature. You can also design flyers and other marketing materials in the program.

We’ll start with a simple design. Open up Photoshop by pressing Ctrl+O (Windows) or Command+O (Mac). Click the “New” button in the lefthand toolbar (see Figure 4-17). The New dialog box should appear. In the New Document window, in the From drop-down menu, select “Image.” Leave the Size at 96 pixels wide by 48 pixels high. The resolution is more than adequate for our design.

Next, click on the New Document icon in the tool bar. Click the “+” icon in the Tool Options bar at the top of the window and choose “Brush.” Drag the pointer over any blank area of the canvas until it fills with black (see Figure 4-18).

When you create a new layer, it will appear as a transparent square in the Layer Control window (see Figure 4-19). To simplify your design, make sure there are no other layers on the background. Click the background to lock all other layers, and click the New Layer icon at the bottom of the Layer Control window.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 For Windows

In this guide, I’ll teach you a wide range of cool, creative and fun things you can do with Photoshop Elements. You’ll learn:

How to adjust color in an image

How to crop an image

How to fix a color-balanced image

How to get creative with filters

How to create an image from scratch

How to use a “canvas” to your benefit

How to use a brush to create something unique

How to use an “Action” to create a new preset

How to create custom actions

How to use advanced editing techniques

We’ll also learn some cool stuff about the designers of the program, which I bet you weren’t expecting.

Let’s get started!

How to Use Photoshop Elements

First, let’s get into how the program works, and what you can and can’t do in it.

The most basic thing you can do with Photoshop Elements is import an image. You then have a window, where you can edit the image as you please.

You can open a new image by clicking File > New, or you can double-click on an image that you’ve already loaded in.

And just like in the full version, you can go to Image > Adjust > Levels (or you can right-click on an image, and choose Adjust > Levels).

You’ll see the Levels dialog box, as shown below.

In Elements, you have a preview window that shows up along with the levels dialog box. You can adjust the settings for your image by looking at the preview.

Open a new image

Click the Amount slider in the window at the top left, and drag it all the way to the right to turn the image white and gray. You can adjust the whole image if you wish, or just part of it.

Click and drag the left and right sides of the gray area to adjust the curve.

Underneath the slider, you can see the color values in the image. Drag them up if you want a lighter image, or drag them down if you want a darker image.

Make sure to stop dragging when you think the image is the way you want it to be.

Click Save.

Changing of the Guard: Employees of the opposition will take the reins at the centre

What’s happening

In the coming days, most of the opposition MPs will be replaced, as most of the incumbents in the House of Commons will be appointed to the frontbench, the government’s cabinet.

The first round of appointments is expected to be announced on Wednesday.

After last Thursday’s vote, the new interim Parliament will meet for the first time on Tuesday, Sept. 18.

The new MPs will take over their new positions, including those who were appointed as interim replacements for former cabinet ministers and deputy ministers.

Will it work?

Changes to the frontbench have been common since the 2015 campaign. It’s been speculated that this move is a result of the leaders of both the Liberals and New Democrats, Justin Trudeau and Jagmeet Singh, trying to gain a political advantage over one another by leaving their best talent on the opposition benches.

But the other major change that has been announced over the past week is the resignation of 12 of the 33 members of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics.

This could prove to be more consequential.

The committee handles complaints about access to information and privacy breaches related to the federal government.

Liberal MP Scott Brison resigned from his seat in this role on the committee, while NDP MP David Christopherson also gave notice of his resignation.

Liberal MP David McGuinty has stepped in to fill the vacancy left by Brison, while the NDP has yet to name a replacement.

If this trend continues, the House of Commons could become even more polarized than it already is.

When the Liberal government of John Turner was at the centre, some of the most high-profile ministerial appointments were made by a political rival.

P.E. Trudeau, for example, was appointed as defence minister by Jean Chrétien, who was then the leader of the Liberal Party.

Mulroney replaced Turner as prime minister and Chrétien took over as his deputy.

This pattern was repeated three years later with the incoming Liberal government of Michael Ignatieff when he appointed Julie Filmon as his deputy.

Beyond the odd appointment, the Liberals never really seemed to leave another MP on their frontbench, while the New Democrats repeatedly replaced their MPs.

The opposition currently has

Call to a member function show() on a non-object error when trying to add_filter() in my active_filters

I have a custom user meta field that is retrieving a published_date from the database and showing it in a dropdown.
I am trying to add a filter for it and I am getting an “Call to a member function show() on a non-object” error
I have created the function in my functions.php file, and I have added “active_filter” as one of the filters in the WordPress settings for the page (I have tried all three). But I am getting this error.
function active_filter_dropdown( $value = ”, $selected = ” ) {
$product_published_dates = get_post_meta( get_the_ID(), ‘product_published_dates’, true );
$users_dropdown = array(
array( ‘product_published_dates’ => $product_published_dates[‘product_published_dates’] ),
array( ‘product_published_dates’ => $product_published_dates[‘product_published_dates’],’selected’ => $selected )
foreach ($users_dropdown as $value => $output) {
$dropdown = $output[‘product_published_dates’];
if( $output[‘selected’] == $selected ) {
$value = $output[‘product_published_dates’];
echo ”. $output[‘product_published_dates’].”;
